Atlantic Beach Golf course just outside Cape Town is  a true 18‑hole links-style course (par‑72, about 6,295–6,506 m / 6,506 m ~ 7,117 yds from championship tees) It is set high on the coastal dunes with stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and Table Mountain

The course has firm fairways and fast, strategic greens. The coastal wind can dramatically alter play; calm days suit lofted shots, while windy conditions demand low, running links-style shots.. As a mid level player my personal experience is that if you are very straight and have great course management you will score a couple of shots below your handicap, that said if you want to smash a 300 hundred yard drive your will shoot 5 over your handicap.  It is not target golf but it is very much a case of playing the course at it lies not your ball... ie leave your ego in the car..

The wind will dramatically affect your play if the South Easter is blowing so it is best to play in the morning during summer as the wind picks up during the afternoon to nuclear level.

The course integrates fynbos, indigenous coastal shrubland, with sandy dunes and protected flora..

Wildlife freely roams—expect to see springbok, grysbok, mongoose, tortoises, cape cobras, sunbirds, and other indigenous birdlife. Lost balls aren't retrieved from protected corridors to safeguard this biodiversity.. so you have to be straight with your shots.. the fairways are actually quite wide but they do look intimidating..

In terms of the weather it is a Mediterranean climate:

  • Winters (Jun–Sep): Cool and wet; rain comes from NW systems.
  • Summers (Oct–Apr): Dry, warm, breezy due to the South Atlantic High, with strong SE winds

The Wind offers frequent coastal breezes—typically 11–39 km/h—with winter gustier and summer breezy enough to influence shot strategy

In terms of the actual course and conditions, its is Links-style design among dunes and wind makes for a strategic test—narrow fairways framed by fynbos and dunes punish errant shots on windy days, play low and run shots; calm days favour lofted approaches..
